Food is Medicine for Central MA – Synergy Initiative Round 6

Community Servings received a Synergy Initiative Planning Grant of $250,000 in 2024 for the Food is Medicine for Central MA project. The goal of the project is to significantly strengthen and support Central Massachusetts regional Food is Medicine providers and expand access to the home-delivered medically tailored meal intervention across the entire region.

Community Servings will leverage their robust regional, state and national networks to identify specific opportunities for policy expansion, including in Massachusetts’ Medicaid’s Flexible Services Program, and the Medicare Program, by convening partners, building new healthcare contract relationships to expand access to the medically tailored meal (MTM) intervention, and evaluating the intervention’s impact to address important unknowns that could guide regional and state policy maker decision making on expanding government funding for MTMs.

Goals for the Planning Year include efforts to strengthen and support existing Central MA Food is Medicine providers and expand access to MTM intervention in Central MA by building new healthcare contract relationships and developing a regional subset of the state-based Food Is Medicine Coalition and hosting a regional convening.
